Sophie Hirsch, Comrads Fellow, is in South Africa with SANTA Mpumalanga - and two other HBCs supported by them.
"As a medic I am interested in diseases, medicine and care, of course. I would like to learn more about NGOs: What do they do? How do they work? What are their everyday problems? But I also hope to learn more about South Africa, its people and its culture. I hope that SANTA and The Comrads (me!) will be able to exchange knowledge and that both sides will learn a lot."
Here, Sophie will be keeping a short daily blog.
- Alison Manuell [Latest Entry: Tuesday, 03 August 2010 14:46], *About Alison*
The Comrads are funding an Assistant to the Provincial Manager, Mr. Msanyana Skhosana, for a period of 12 Months. The new Assistant, Miss Alison Manuell will be pivotal in increasing MATA's capacity to provide sustainable high quality training and support services to over 70 home-based care centres (HBC) and 1600 DOTS volunteers (Directly Observed Treatment Support). These in turn serve towns and communities across the width and breadth of the Mpumalanga Province – which has one of the highest prevalences of HIV in South Africa at 32%. Within this blog you can follow Alison's work.

- Jeroen Masson [Latest Entry: Friday, 21 August 2009 15:15], *About Jeroen*
In summer 2009, Comrads Fellow Jeroen Masson travelled to South Africa to support our partner NGO, MATA. The purpose of the mission was to oversee the Identification and Formulation stage of a new project, as part of our role in providing technical assistance and capacity building. Jeroen's hard work provided a huge boost both to MATA and The Comrads. The main yield of which is in the form of Alison Manuell, the grant recipient who has been recruited to further increase the effectiveness of MATA's work in Mpumalanga. Read Jeroen's blog to find out more about the project and his personal experiences over the three weeks he spent with MATA.
- Ryan Jepson [Latest Entry: Saturday, 2 May 2009 18:33], *About Ryan*

Alison is British but has lived in Witbank, South Africa since February 2009. Before this, she lived in London where she worked for a non-profit organisation, GuideStar International.
She has an MA in International Relations and has just spent the past 9 months volunteering with charities in the local area. She started work as MATA Project Assistant in January 2010
Sophie is a medical student from Tuebingen / Germany.
Jeroen first got in touch with NGO The Comrads as a guest at one of our events in Belgium but later in 2009 became our first Comrads Fellow in South Africa. He spent 1 month working hand in hand with local partners, developing our common strategies for the future.
Ryan has been involved with The Comrads since October 2006, after meeting one of the founding members – a fellow exchange student – in Zurich. He started out assisting in event organisation and fundraising and, more recently, has assisted in the transition from supporting large aid donors and institutions to the establishment of a small collaborative network of partner NGOs, following a networking and assessment mission to South Africa in autumn, 2008.
He has continued to support partner collaboration and technical assistance throughout 2009 and looks forward to facing the new challenges of an ever developing organization in a new role as Project Director.
