Dear All :
It is with great pleasure and a slight touch of pride that we send you this first NGO The Comrads newsletter on this day that is all but random... Today is 'World Aids Day', a day to raise awareness around the AIDS pandemic, one of the most destructive epidemics in history.
Despite the recent important progresses of science, AIDS still kills more than 8.500 people every day and is the leading cause of death in Africa (WHO).
During the last year, NGO The Comrads has reinforced its impact by establishing two flagship events (Arts Against Aids and The Comrads Beach Run) raising more than 15.000€. Moreover, we developed a strong partnership with MATA, an organization active in AIDS & TB care and prevention in South Africa. A Comrads fellow joined them in South Africa helping us find the best way to work together and strengthened the basis of our collaboration.
Through this newsletter, we would also like to take the opportunity to thank everybody that contributed in bringing NGO The Comrads where it is today, especially Simon Van Dorpe, Matthias Verbeke and David Vlerick, all founding members and members of the former Executive Committee. They planted this special touch of hope in all Comrads actions and we are determined to keep it alive!
In 2010, we will celebrate our 5th birthday and our ambition is to keep fighting for AIDS awareness and care, Global Health in general, and making this world ever better. Be there in 2010 and help us help others!

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! - Summer 2009
The Comrads volunteer, Jeroen, spent three weeks with MATA this summer. After identifying two concrete proposals, we agreed to fund an Assistant to their Provincial Manager for a period of 12 Months. |

COMRADS BEACH RUN 2009
Where in the world? Beautiful beach. Friends. Bar. Music. Wellbeing.. Carribean? No! Knokke, Belgium! When: Sat.19.09.2009. Over 150 runners registered for the 5-, 10- and 20Km while hundreds of supporters cheered them up or just came for a drink and bite on the Belgian beach! Over 6,000 Euro were raised and are grateful to all participants! |
